I Have To Be Honest:
I have to be honest about my past. When I would think of the holiday season, especially Christmas, I would get anxiety. The excitement was barely there, if I had any at all. My mind seemed to stay focused on all the work needed to be done rather than the real reason to celebrate. With it being the end of the year, my mind gravitated to other things like my business. If you are a small business owner or an online influencer, you know what I mean. We are focused on ending of the year with a bang or setting our goals for the new year. This year, I even challenged myself to blog everyday in December. What was I thinking?
Normally, my job gives us two days off for Christmas plus the weekend. On those extra days off, I would be so busy running errands, cooking, ect…that I didn’t really make memories with my family.
After repeating this pattern for many years, I decided to make a change last year. I mean, think about it…..we do so much to prepare for this one particular day of the year. This year, I want you to make the commitment to map out time to enjoy those simple moments with your family and friends. Learn to be present. Shut the phone off. Close the laptop.
By any means, I’m not saying to ignore your business at all. December could be a very profitable month for some of our businesses. I just don’t want you to be the undercover Scrooge like I once was. In order to take some of the pressure off and really celebrate, I’ve come up with a few effective tips.
How To Get Rid Of Anxiety During The Holidays:
- Don’t wait until the last-minute to do everything. Plan, plan, and plan. Even plan out your shopping.
- Find alternate ways of dealing with your previous problems. In my case, I don’t like shopping around crowds. People tend to be in the way and waiting in long lines isn’t my thing. My nerves get bad and I just can’t deal. This has a lot to do with my military background. Shopping online has helped me out tremendously. What issues do you deal with during the holidays? Cooking? Family? Money? Holiday Traffic?
- Keep it simple. Stop stressing. The decorations don’t have to be the most extravagant. You don’t have to cook a ton of dishes. Purchasing numerous amount of gifts will not make you parent of the year.
- Maximize your time doing what you love with who you love. Don’t spend all of your time doing something just because! Cooking holiday food is not my thing. I prefer to keep my meals quick and healthy. Knowing this, I’ve decided to pay my boss (he’s a great cook) to prepare my side dish to bring to the big family Christmas Dinner. I would much rather hangout with my family than cook. What could you contract out during the holiday season? Have you thought about hiring someone to wrap all of your gifts or help with decoration? It doesn’t have to be holiday related. Maybe you could hire someone to help with your regular tasks so you can do more holiday related things. For example, hire someone to clean your home or hire a yard man. For my business babes, contract some of your work out as well. Don’t schedule so many meetings this month.
Don’t try to spend all of your time trying to make an amazing holiday when everything you need is right in front of you. Stop trying to do everything and get help. Try not to work all the way up to the day of. Value your time and spend it doing what you enjoy the most. Celebrate the true meaning, make it simple and make it count.
