I Have To Be Honest:
I have to be honest about my past. When I would think of the holiday season, especially Christmas, I would get anxiety. The excitement was barely there, if I had any at all. My mind seemed to stay focused on all the work that needed to be done rather than the holiday. It was so bad that I would feel guilty about the way I felt. This year is going to be different…
A New Me:
We get so busy with the task of making the holidays great that we hardly take the time to enjoy the real reason behind it. This year I made a commitment to slow down my life. This may come to some as easy, but not me. As we prepare for the holidays, I realize that I have to work even harder to accomplish my new simple living goals. It starts with changing my previous ways and mindset. I don’t want to be the undercover Scrooge. I want to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas and enjoy it. I’ve come up with a few tips to help me along the way.
How To Get Rid Of Anxiety During The Holidays:
- Don’t wait until the last minute to do everything. Plan, plan, and plan.
- Find alternate ways of dealing with your previous problems. In my case, I don’t like being around a lot of people in public places. My nerves get bad and I just can’t deal. This has a lot to do with my military background. Shopping online has helped me out tremendously. What issues do you deal with during the holidays? Cooking? Family? Money?
- Keep it simple. Stop stressing. The decorations don’t have to be the most extravagant. You don’t have to cook a ton of dishes. Purchasing numerous amount of gifts will not make you parent of the year. That can’t be good for your debt anyway. Don’t you dare ignore your debt during the holidays.
- Maximize your time doing what you love with who you love. Don’t spend all of your time working! Cooking holiday food is not my thing. I prefer to keep my meals quick and healthy. Knowing this, I’ve decided to pay my boss (he’s a great cook) to prepare my side dish to bring to the big family Christmas Dinner. I would much rather hangout with my family than cook. What could you contract out during the holiday season? Have you thought about hiring someone to wrap all of your gifts? It doesn’t have to be holiday related. Maybe you could hire someone to help with your regular tasks so you can do more holiday related things. For example, hire someone to clean your home or hire a yardman.
Normally, my job gives us two days off for Christmas plus the weekend. On those extra days off, I would be so busy running errands, cooking, ect…that I didn’t really enjoy making memories with my family. I don’t want to spend all of my time trying to make an amazing holiday when everything I need is right in front of me. The takeaway is to stop working all the way up to the day of. Value your time and spend it doing what you enjoy. Celebrate the true meaning, make it simple and make it count. What is it that you do during the holidays to maximize your time and to get rid of anxiety and stress?
