Something was happening to my body and I couldn’t take it anymore. Previously, I followed a low carb diet. It’s somewhat like the Atkins, but not as serious. Sweet potatoes, brown rice, quinoa and tortillas were some of the carbs that I had been eating before.
This week I decided to go all in and complete the induction stage of the Atkins Diet. This is where you will only eat 20 grams of carbs for two weeks. That isn’t a lot of carbs at all. You don’t even eat fruits or nuts in the very-limited induction stage. There wasn’t any gradual change. I basically just dropped my carbs drastically.
Let me start by saying, the headaches were unbearable. I could feel my vein throbbing on the side of my head every single day. Headaches has never been a problem for me. Most of you know I’m a cardio girl. I start off on the treadmill no matter what I’m working out that day. Even if I’m lifting, I will still run first to get my heart rate up. Monday, as I ran on the treadmill, I noticed that I was weak, dizzy and could barely feel my legs. As I ran, I had to hold on to the bar in fear of falling. I knew something was wrong.
After a few minutes, I gave up. I found my husband who was at the gym to inform him of how I felt. He told me to go home and eat. We both thought it was because I took a pre workout and a thermofit. I’d only eaten a salad that day which is why he told me to eat some protein. The next day, I didn’t take the thermofit and I still felt bad. I still had the headaches and felt very weak. It clearly wasn’t the Thermofit.
Then I found this article and it all made sense. My body reached ketosis from dropping my carbs. I can’t tell you the last time that I had bread or white rice. Truthfully, I don’t want it but I refuse to have these headaches and other symptoms. I’m going to start eating my quinoa and brown rice again. If I eat bread, it will only be one slice in the morning. I do not plan on eating any carbs after 3pm. My carbs will still stay low, but not as low as 20grams!
My body has made some amazing changes but it is important for me to live healthy and strong. I want to be good on the inside and out. Have any of you experiences ketosis?
